Udawatta Kele – A city forest

If you haven’t guessed already, Udawatta Kele is a forest in the heart of the historic and regal Kandy city.

It’s hard to miss actually. The forest is located just behind the revered and pristine Sri Dalada Maligawa, also more commonly known non locals as the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

If you’re an avid bird lover, the ideal time to walk through the trails at Udawatta Kele is during the morning hours. The weather is slightly cooler and the birds usually burst in to song during the wee hours of the morning.

Luckily, there are plenty of options for accommodation in Kandy to choose from, ranging from budget providers such as Yoho Bed to luxury hotels – as the city is a popular tourist destination.

Tips
The park is open from 8am to 5pm, giving you a whole day of exploring! Plastics and polythene is not allowed inside the forest. Don’t litter, break or damage any of the flora. Vandalizing the park and disturbing the fauna is strictly prohibited.
