An ancient rock fortress stands as one of the island’s most iconic natural structures; the Sigiriya Rock Fortress was built during the 5th century AD by King Kasyapa.
About
To shorten a long story, King Kasyapa built his kingdom on the area surrounding the gigantic rock and constructed his royal palace at the summit of the rock, after he murdered his father; the King at the time; over claims of the throne.
Frescoes

One of the most famous, and stunning remnants of this era are the colourful frescos of apsaras on the inner walls of this fortress. Any Sigiriya hotel in the area features a visit to this beautiful fortress as one of its main attractions. Some properties such as Sigiriya Jungles are so well placed that you could see the rock from the property’s own garden!
Mirror Wall

A long Mirror Wall that was said to have been so thoroughly polished, that you were able to see your reflection – however over the last few centuries, the wall is now covered in graffiti.
The Gardens

The green gardens; complete with ponds and pools are known to be one of the oldest gardens in the world.
The Summit

Hold your jaw as it’s sure to drop all the way back to the base of the rock after you reach the summit! The view of the surrounding landscapes will take your breath away.
