If you’re looking to experience the cultural allure of Tianjin, look no further than the vibrant Ancient Cultural Street. Known locally as Guwenhua Street, this enchanting stretch surrounds you with the sights and sounds of the region’s history, culture and tradition, an experience that you must have in person.

Location
Located in Tianjin’s Nankai District, Guwenhua Street was officially opened in 1986. It is located on the western bank of the Haihe River and is just a short walk from hotels like Pan Pacific Tianjin.
The Centrepiece Attraction
One of the first attractions to visit on this cultural avenue is Tianhou Palace or the Temple of the Queen of Heaven. Located at the street’s geographical centre, the palace dates back to 1326 and is one of three Mazu Temples in the world. It now functions as a museum that showcases many cultural relics and folk crafts.
Intriguing Sights
As you walk along the street, you’ll notice that many buildings feature blue bricks and have colourfully painted windows. Some depict historical and legendary figures while others retell stories from classical Chinese novels. This makes Guwenhua an ideal locale for a Tianjin sightseeing adventure.
Local Handicrafts
Another great thing about Guwenhua Street is that you can always bring back something with you to remember your visit. The street is lined with several stores selling New Year paintings, intricate sculptures, and delicate pottery items.
