The area used to be a major centre for the fishing industry, hence the name “Fisherman’s Village”. It is believed that Chinese fishermen first came to this area many millennia ago. The main pier has since collapsed, and the fishermen have long since gone on.

Attractions close to Fisherman’s Village
The Bophut region, to the north of Koh Samui, is home to a hamlet of fishermen. Given that the Big Buddha temple, Bophut Beach, and Maenam Beach are all in the island’s north, you can visit all of them while also visiting Fisherman’s Village.
The ambience
Clearly, the name of this older section of Bophut beach comes from the fact that it was formerly a busy fishing hamlet. From the years past are old shop houses which give this village its old-world charm. The historic feel of the village is enjoyed by tourists and loved by the locals as well.
