Also known as the Dhalada Maligawa, this archaic shrine is the focal point of the beautiful city of Kandy. The Sacred Tooth of Lord Buddha dwells in a separate chamber inside the temple. It is of great significance to the Buddhist community on the island of Sri Lanka.
As the legend goes….
Taken from the pyre after his death, The Sacred Tooth of Buddha was given to the King of Kalinga. It was sent to Sri Lanka in 313 AD and has been kept as a gem of the country ever since. The relic turned out to be the image of royalty in Sri Lanka.
Getting there

A short drive away from Hotel Topaz this monument is within easy reach form anywhere in Kandy. Many a best hotel in Kandy are sited near this spot. The main entrance is right in front of the Kandy lake. There are maps available, so it will be effortless to discover.
What you will see
There is so much to observe inside. The palace grounds, the Pattirippuwa and the Kandy National Museum are just two of the main attractions to visit inside. You will also come across elaborate wood and stone carvings, some as antique as the temple itself.
The experience
With clear alleyways and foliage that surround it, the regal white palace is a tranquil sight to witness. Particularly at dusk, the white stupa looks remarkable alongside the backdrop of the sky that’s progressively changing colours.
