This coastal gem boasts a tapestry of historical places that transport visitors back in time. From the renowned Sultan Qaboos Mosque, a modern architectural marvel, to the ancient ruins of Al-Baleed Archaeological Park, Salalah seamlessly blends the old and the new. The city’s historical tapestry is further woven with the tales of the ancient frankincense trade as part of the country’s tale.
Sultan Qaboos Mosque
Nestled at the city’s core, this grand architectural marvel serves as a profound representation of Islamic design, showcasing its magnificence. The prayer hall within is adorned with opulent chandeliers, lush green carpeting, and intricate wall patterns, all harmoniously capturing the essence of Islamic aesthetics – a short skip and hop from a resort like the Al Baleed Resort Salalah.

The Tombs of the Four Prophets
In Salalah, four significant tombs honor the prophets Ayub, Hood, Imran, and Saleh. Prophet Ayub’s tomb, atop Jebel Ittin, offers a memorable 30-minute drive from the city, though fog during Khareef Season can make the mountain roads challenging. Prophet Hood’s tomb, tied to the tribe of Ad, is just a 20-minute drive north of Salalah. The enigmatic Nabi Imran’s tomb, possibly linked to Prophet Moses or Prophet Issa, stands as one of the world’s largest at approximately 12 meters. Lastly, the Tomb of Prophet Saleh, located two hours east of Salalah, is known for the footprint of his camel, a significant sign to the Tribe of Samood.
The Land of Frankincense
Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Land of Frankincense comprises four integral components: Al Baleed Archaeological Site, Sumharam Old City (Khor Rori), Wubar Archaeological Site, and Wadi Dawkah – ranging from ancient seaports to plantations and trading hubs.
Fazayah Beach Picnic
Fazayah stands as one of Dhofar’s renowned beaches, celebrated for its unspoiled natural beauty. Situated to the west of Mughsail Beach and Masood Hidden Beach, Fazayah Beach is accessible via an off-road route, and is a great distraction from civilization, a popular activity amongst locals and easily reached from any Salalah resort in Oman.
