As far as Bangkok’s royal grandeur goes, nothing beats the Grand Palace, with its magnificent golden exteriors and stunning temples. Here’s everything you need to know before you visit this iconic site that was once the residence for Thai royalty.
Visiting Times
The Grand Palace is open daily from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm but the best time to visit is early in the morning, when the weather is cooler and the crowds are fewer.
Reaching the Palace
The easiest way for most visitors to reach the palace is by taking a boat from one of the piers of the river, and reaching Tha Tien. From there, it’s a quick walk to the Palace. You can also reach the river via the Sky Train if you’re based at hotels like NH Bangkok Sukhumvit Boulevard or any of the other best hotel suites in Bangkok.
Key Attractions
Although most of the buildings in the complex are closed to the public, you can still admire them from the outside. Here are a few key highlights:
- Wat Phra Kaew – The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the most sacred temple in the city
- The Cloisters – These surround the buildings of the temple and feature stunning paintings
- Phra Siratana Chedi – This golden stupa is the tallest and most visible building at the complex
- Phra Mondop – This structure features a spiral rood and mosaic walls made of glass.

Dress Code
There is a strict dress code for visitors – modest attire that covers shoulders and legs completely. This is because the Palace is a revered religious and royal site.
Entry Fee
As of July 2025, foreign visitors will need to pay an entry fee of 500 baht, while entrance for Thai nationals is free. Tickets can be obtained through the official website or at the Palace premises.
